Why A Meal Replacement?

Why A Meal Replacement?

Posted by Scott Farquharson on

Meal replacements are having a moment, but do you know what they really are? Why not just throw some protein powder in a smoothie and call it a meal? We asked our VP of Research & Development to break down what a meal replacement is and why it's different.

Why should I use a meal replacement v. a protein powder?

Meal replacements are used to replace entire meals, whereas most protein powders are supplemental to one's diet. Protein powders are lower calorie options and become an accessory to someone's day-to-day diet. They are a targeted solution to increase the amount of protein you consume in a day.

Meal replacements have a very high nutrient density profile and they actually can replace entire meals with very few calories. They have a mix of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats that the body needs to fuel itself and stay full. Our specific formulations also include additions like vitamins, minerals and probiotics to assist with optimal body function.

What are the key facts I should look for in a meal replacement?

Meal replacements should have roughly 190 to 250 calories and have a complete protein source from plants or whey proteins.  We like to add a good amount of fiber to our meal replacements to mimic what a high fiber meal would contain to keep you satiated.  It also should be a product you can enjoy with just the addition of almond milk or your favorite liquid with very few calories added.

Who should use a meal replacement?

Meal replacements are great for anyone! It's especially suited for those who have hectic schedules and are looking for a quick and nutritious meal. It's also great for those who are looking to control their calories throughout the day, as it is a well-rounded meal that is lower in calories compared to the average meal.

How do I use a meal replacement?

For our formulations, all you need is 2 ingredients! Mix 2 scoops of powder with 8-10 oz of your favorite liquid (we recommend milk or your favorite non-dairy milk). Stir and enjoy!
